Overwatch Battle Group assists Iraq villages

The Australian Defence Force has provided vital assistance to southern Iraq.

The Australian Overwatch Battle Group (West) has distributed a significant quantity of medical supplies and 2000 mosquito nets to the villages of Al Khamiseah and Saha’alat in Dhi Qar province.

The Australian commander Lieutenant Colonel Jake Ellwood also officially opened a new road and two electrical transformer projects to assist in the burgeoning growth of these two communities

The people of Saha’alat and Al Khamiseah belong to this tribe and with assistance provided by the Coalition are rebuilding their communities.

Approximately 500 personnel, drawn mostly from Darwin's 1st Brigade, make up the Overwatch Battle Group (West) - Three (OBG(W)-3). The Battle group is helping the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Provincial Governments build a secure and stable Iraq. OBG(W)-3 operates in the Al Muthanna and Dhi Qar provinces as part of the Multi National Force - Iraq (MNF-I).
