Iraqi Army Sports Day

Australian troops serving with the Overwatch Battle Group West-Two in southern Iraq have enthusiastically taken part in a sports day organised by the Iraqi Army.

The sports days was held at Camp Ur, the training base and headquarters for the 3rd Brigade of the Iraqi Army’s 10th Division based in Dhi Qar province.

The Australians won the 100m hurdles and the 4x100 metre military skills relay. But the Iraqis were too swift against the Aussies in the soccer winning 2-nil and the Romanians were far too strong in the tug-o-war.

Approximately 500 personnel, drawn mostly from Darwin's 1st Brigade, form the Overwatch Battle Group (West) - Two (OBG(W)-2). The Battle group is helping the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Provincial Governments build a secure and stable Iraq. OBG(W)-2 operates in the Al Muthanna and Dhi Qar provinces as part of the Multi National Force - Iraq (MNF-I).
