Strong man competition on Khawr al Amaya Oil Terminal "KAAOT"
The Commander designate of coalition naval elements in the Northern Arabian Gulf, Commodore Peter Lockwood and his Australian Staff accept the handover of command from US Marine Corps Brigadier General Carl B. Jensen. Commodore Lockwood is the second Australian Naval officer to command the Task Force, named Task Force 158.
The 22 Australian Naval Officers and Sailors have taken their posts on USS McFaul, where the handover took place.
The Task Force is responsible for protecting Iraqi sovereign waters and the country’s oil terminals in the Northern Gulf. Task Force 158 is responsible for Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the Northern waters and is made up of coalition and Iraqi ships.
One of the vessels under Commodore Lockwood’s command is Australia’s other contribution to the Task Force, HMAS BALLARAT, an ANZAC Class Frigate. The ship which was commissioned in 2004 is on its first deployment to the Middle East.
