Commander 158 Task Force Commodore Peter Lockwood on the sensor suite of the P3 Orion
For the second time, Australian Naval Personnel are to command Coalition efforts in the Northern Gulf.
As part of Australia's Naval contribution to the ongoing rebuilding of Iraq, Commodore Peter Lockwood and his staff of twenty one Naval Officers and specialist sailors will take charge of Task Force 158.
This Task Force is responsible for maritime security operations in the Northern Gulf waters, particularly protecting Iraq's oil terminals. These terminals are vital for the economic rebuilding of that country.
The Task Force is made up of a fleet of Coalition Vessels including HMAS Ballarat.
Australian Naval contributions to the Gulf have been an ongoing commitment since 1991.
