Al Muthanna Task Group on patrol

The Australian soldier’s of the Al Muthanna Task Group have begun day and night patrols in and around the city of As Samawah.

The dismounted foot patrols brought the Australian diggers into contact with many of the local people, who have welcomed the new faces.

The day and night patrols have also shown that the Australian’s are keen to maintain security in Iraq’s most peaceful Province.

The members of the AMTG have used their night-vision equipment to good effect, patrolling extensively in areas around the base camp and near the city.

The AMTG is tasked with security and support to the Japanese Iraq Reconstruction Group and the Australian Army Training Team. It works alongside the British Light Dragoons as part of Task Force Eagle, which is responsible for security sector reform in the Al Muthanna Province.
