Minister of Defence, Senator Robert Hill visits Camp Smitty in As Samawah, Iraq

The Minister of Defence, Senator the Honourable Robert Hill, today visited the Al Muthanna Task Group (AMTG) at Camp Smitty in As Samawah province, Iraq.

At Camp Smitty the Minister met and spoke to the Commander of the AMTG, as well as soldiers from the task group's advance party.

The Minister also met the Governor of the Al Muthanna Province, Governor Hassani, and the Commander of the Japanese Iraq Support Group, Colonel Kiyohoko Ota, to discuss Australia's ongoing commitment to the rehabilitation, security and reconstruction of Iraq.

The AMTG will help meet that commitment through its mission to provide security and support for the Japanese Iraq Reconstruction and Support Group and the Australian Army Training Team - Iraq, which will train parts of the Iraqi Army.
