22 April 2005
Additional components of the Al Muthanna Task Group (AMTG) arrive in the Middle East

The advance elements of the Al Muthanna Task Group (AMTG) on 21 April 2005 welcomed the arrival of more Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAV) from the Darwin-based 2nd Cavalry Regiment.

The vehicles arrived by air in one of the largest aircraft of its type in the world, a chartered Antonov An-124 freighter aircraft.

More ASLAVs will arrive over coming weeks as the AMTG progressively deploys into the Middle East Area of Operations.

The vehicles form an important component of the mission of the AMTG, which is to provide security and support for the Japanese Iraq Reconstruction and Support Group as well as the Australian Army Training Team - Iraq.
