Al Muthanna Task Group loading on HMAS Tobruk

The loading took place at Fort Hill Wharf, Darwin, NT. The Al Muthanna Task Group lift included 40 armoured ASLAV’s from the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade based out of Darwin.

The amphibious landing ship, HMAS Tobruk, with her heavy lift capability, will provide sealift to the Middle East for the Australian Army deploying as the Al Muthanna Task Group (AMTG).

The deployment supports Operation CATALYST, the Australian Defence Force’s contribution to the rehabilitation and stabilisation of Iraq. The Australian contingent will be providing support to the Japanese Reconstruction and Support Group as well as the Australian Army Training Team – Iraq.
