Promotion ceremony
The Commander of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), Commodore Stuart Mayer, has presented medals and promoted several Australian Defence Force personnel nearing the conclusion of their deployment on Operation Astute in East Timor.
In presenting the medals and promotions, CDRE Mayer highlighted the role that each deployed member of the ISF plays in the restoring normality to East Timor.
“Our mission here in East Timor has progressed,” he told assembled troops.
“We are no longer here primarily to provide security, but we have an important role to play in building the capacity of this nation. This is particularly the case in the training and the knowledge we can share with organisations such as the East Timorese military and police.”
The medals awarded were the Australian Service Medal (ASM) with Timor Leste clasp, and the Timor Leste Solidarity Medal (TLSM) that is awarded to defence force members who have served at least 120 days as a part of the ISF.
Personnel attached to the 12th Timor Leste Aviation Group, having completed their required training and promotion courses, were also promoted to higher ranks.
The ISF is made up of Australian and New Zealand defence forces personnel working with the Timor Leste Government and United Nations in order to support peace and stability in East Timor.
