Movember in East Timor

Australian and New Zealand defence personnel in East Timor have raised more than US$5,000 as part of Movember, the annual campaign to raise funds and awareness for Men’s Health issues.

The military relaxed rules governing facial hair so that defence members could grow an assortment moustache styles in order to raise money for the Prostate Caner Foundation of Australia and “Beyond Blue: The National Depression Initiative.”

One of the leading fund raising activities for Movember in East Timor was the removal of one beard that had been in place for 25 years. The Deputy Commander of the International Stabilisation Force, New Zealand Navy Captain Wayne Burroughs, offered up his facial hair to be shaved by the highest bidder. His beard was removed for a collective bid of US$450.
