The Timor Lest Battle Group Training
The Timor-Leste Battle Group VI (TLBG VI), serving with the International Stabilisation Force in East Timor, has been able to take advantage of numerous training opportunities during their deployment.
These exercises enhance the soldiers’ military skills and have included urban environment training that takes place in a specially constructed training area and an abandoned prison.
Consisting of wood and hessian ‘houses’ that have been constructed by Battle Group engineers, the portable facility can be quickly assembled and disassembled then easily transported to different regions depending on training requirements.
The abandoned prison is made of thick concrete walls with numerous obstacles and hidden locations that enables Australian and New Zealand soldiers to take part in complex urban combat scenarios.
The battle group has also undertaken training exercises aimed at enhancing the capacity of the East Timorese Defence Force (F-FDTL). This included supporting the F-FDTL on a recent joint exercise with the United States Marine Corps.
