Ossu Huna Health Clinic
As the security situation in East Timor improves, Australian and New Zealand soldiers are working on projects that will deliver improved living conditions to the people of East Timor.
Recent projects have included the refurbishment of an important medical health facility in a regional area and the renovation of a damaged school.
The reconstruction of the Ossu Huna Health Clinic was a particularly important for this impoverished area of the country. The project was undertaken by East Timorese Defence Force engineers working with their Australian and New Zealand counterparts from the International Stabilisation Force, and engineers from the United States Navy Seabees.
ISF troops have also recently completed work on a refurbishment of classrooms at the Ep Mota Kiik School near Dili. When the soldiers arrived at the school there were no windows or doors, ceilings were in a state of near collapse and goats were sleeping in the classrooms. Now the rooms have shuttered windows to protect students from the weather and the classrooms have desks and blackboards.
The soldiers have approached their work with enthusiasm, knowing that their end result will make a tangible contribution to the future of local children who will have a better learning environment.
