RSL visits East Timor

Senior members from the News South Wales Branch of the Returned and Services League have visited Australian service personnel deployed on Operation Astute in East Timor.

During their visit, NSW RSL President, Don Rowe, and State Secretary, Chris Perrin, visited International Stabilisation Force (ISF) Forward Operating Bases, laid a wreath at the Dare World War II Memorial and presented troops with sporting equipment.

The Commanding Officer of the Timor Leste Battle Group VI, LTCOL David Smith, welcomed the RSL delegation by highlighting to the troops the ways in which the RSL supports personnel deployed overseas.

LTCOL Smith reminded troops that the RSL provides care packages for deployed military personnel, underwrites Face Tours, provides amenity support and raises funds to pay for electronic and sporting equipment.

The RSL presented ISF soldiers with a shipment of sporting equipment such as kayaks, fishing rods and tackle, dart boards and video entertainment equipment.
In the lead-up to Christmas the RSL will be delivering a further 3,0000 care packages, that contain ANZAC Biscuits and snacks, to deployed personnel.
