A delegation of Northern Territory Parliamentarians visits East Timor

A delegation of Northern Territory Parliamentarians, lead by the Speaker of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, the Hon Jane Aagaard MLA, is visiting East Timor on 26-28 October 2009.

During their trip the delegation visited the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) Camp Phoenix in Dili and received a briefing from Joint Task Force Headquarters staff.
The purpose of the briefing was to provide the Parliamentary delegation with a better understanding of the ISF role and the progress that has been made in the East Timor area of operation.

The delegation also had an opportunity to meet Darwin based members of the Australian Defence Force who are currently on deployment in East Timor.

The ISF is comprised of personnel from the Australian and New Zealand defence forces operating at the invitation of the Government of East Timor, and in support of the United Nations, to maintain stability and provide a secure environment for the ongoing development of Timor Leste.
