Operation ASTUTE Training Exercise

Soldiers from Timor-Leste Battle Group VI (TLBG VI) serving on Op ASTUTE with the International Stabilisation Force in East Timor have recently had the opportunity to work with their East Timorese counterparts during a recent training exercise.

The Exercise allowed soldiers from Alpha Company to test their capacity to operate in complex urban environments.

With the assistance of the Secretary of State for Defence, Dr Julio Pinto, the Battle Group has been offered the use of a disused correctional facility outside of Dili for their training.

The Exercise also saw a section of soldiers from the East Timorese Defence Force
(F-FDTL) train with Battle Group soldiers for the last three days of the Exercise.

F-FDTL soldiers participated in a platoon assault and their section impressed the Australian soldiers.

Working closely together, both forces showed their skill, competence and teamwork.

The F-FDTL component of the exercise was overseen by Australian personnel serving with the Defence Cooperation Programme who work closely with the F-FDTL in a training and development capacity.
