Operation Astute

Personnel serving with the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in East Timor have recently completed improvements to the Metinaro Shooting Range outside of Dili.

As part of the up-grade, the 300m range now has an all-weather shelter and coverable pits for firing practice.

With the wet season approaching this will enable soldiers from the East Timor Defence Force to train on the range in different weather conditions and also supports members from the ISF who also use the Range.

Engineers from Timor-Leste Battle Group VI (TLBG VI) who worked on the improvements were in attendance at the re-opening. Official guests had the opportunity to observe Australian and New Zealand soldiers using the recently up-graded facilities.

Invited guests included the Chief of the East Timor Defence Force, Brigadier-General Taur Matan Ruak, Commander of the International Stabilisation Force, Brigadier Bill Sowry and Commanding Officer of TLBG VI, Lieutenant Colonel Dave Smith.
