Visual Trackers Course

Thirty soldiers from Timor-Leste Battle Group VI (TLBG VI) serving with the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in East Timor have been learning the fine art of visual tracking.

As part of the three-week Visual Trackers Course, the soldiers spent both time in a classroom setting as well as 12 days in the field. On three-day patrols they learnt the art of tracking both individuals and groups.

Also on the course were four members from the East Timor Defence Force who welcomed the opportunity to work with their Australian counterparts. They were able to add their own perspective as the course was held in familiar territory for them in regional East Timor. All participants found the course interesting and valuable.

During the Course, the soldiers had some special visitors. Chief of the East Timor Defence Force, Brigadier-General Taur Matan Ruak, Commander of the ISF, Brigadier Bill Sowry and Commanding Officer of TLBG VI, Lieutenant Colonel Dave Smith dropped in to see the soldiers in training.
