ISF Cyclists Complete Inaugural Timor-Leste Bike Challenge
Three members of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) on operations in East Timor completed the recently held Tour de Timor, a 450 kilometre mountain-bike race held 24 – 28 August.
Officer in Command of Charlie Company, Timor-Leste Battle Group VI, Major Malcolm Beck, along with his 2IC Captain Lee Galbraith and Lieutenant Craig Armitage took part in the five day race which started in Dili, and passed through the main towns of Baucau, Loihuno, Betano, and Maubisse.
The race was an initiative of the President of East Timor, His Excellency, Dr Jose Ramos Horta, and was conducted as part of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of Popular Consultation held over the last weekend in August.
It attracted almost 300 adventure-seeking competitive mountain bike riders, including those with world rankings in the top 20.
The ISF team completed the race mid-field.
