Tour de Force 16 in East Timor
Australian Defence Force members serving with the International Stabilisation Force in East Timor were treated to an entertainment feast this week when the 16th Tour de Force visited.
The tradition of entertainers performing for troops on deployment dates back to before the Vietnam War, and provides a welcome break from the daily routine for soldiers.
In the most-recent Tour de Force Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson (from Australian Idol and Vega FM) joined forces with Ian Moss and his band, Australian Idol contestant Mark Spano, and comedians Lawrence Mooney and Jeff Green.
With a crowd warm-up by ‘Dicko’, both comedians followed with their own special humour. The laconic Aussie humour of Lawrence Mooney was well balanced by Englishman Jeff Green.
Mark Spano showed what took him into the finals of Australian Idol.
Ian Moss showed the mostly-youthful crowds that he still has what it takes to pump out some classic rock.
The entertainers have had some time to get a feel for life in the military for soldiers on deployment in East Timor and have all had the opportunity to chat with soldiers in both Dili and bases in regional areas.
