Northern Territory Ministers Visit Timor

Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, The Hon. Paul Henderson, MLA, took time out from a busy schedule to visit Darwin soldiers currently deployed in East Timor with Operation Astute.

As part of his visit, the Chief Minister presented East Timor’s latest graduates of the International College of Advanced Education with Certificates in Catering at one of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) bases in Dili.

The students have had on-the-job training at ISF Mess facilities.

Following the brief ceremony and morning tea provided by the students, the Chief Minister, along with Dr Chris Burns, MLA, The Honourable Rob Knight, MLA, and several advisors, spent time chatting with soldiers at the ISF HPOD Base (Helicopter Point of Departure).

A helicopter ride to Baucau was next on the agenda, where the Chief Minister and his colleagues again spent time meeting with soldiers and had a tour of their facilities at the Forward Operating Base.

The Chief Minister addressed the soldiers in Baucau most of whom are posted to Darwin, and thanked them on behalf of the Northern Territory Government for the work they have done in the past eight months during their deployment.

He wished them a safe journey home as they return to Australia in the next few weeks.
