Tour de Force 15

Australian troops deployed in East Timor as part of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), were treated to a series of concerts this week by Australian entertainers and sports people as part of Tour de Force 15, the fifteenth Forces Entertainment Tour to visit East Timor.

The entertainers included Mark Furze (from Home and Away) and his rock band, Falcon Road, as well as Melbourne comedian, Matthew Hardy. MC’s for the night, and with their own version of entertainment, were Amazon (Shari Onley) and Destiny (Karen Harding) from the television show, Gladiators, and Warratahs / Wallabies rugby player Adam Freier.

Amazon and Destiny put some very unknowing volunteers through their paces during the concerts, including several weigh-lifting and endurance activities.

In what was a grueling tour, the troupe performed five concerts in three days, three in Dili and two at Forward Operating Bases at Baucau and Gleno.

The entertainers enjoyed physical training classes with some of the troops and all experienced their first M113 (armoured personnel carrier) ride and Blackhawk flight.

All of the visitors have left with a greater understanding of life in the military and with an appreciation for the work the ISF is doing in East Timor.
