The Timor-Leste Aviation Group is a vital part of the International Stabilisation Force and conducts operations ranging from security overwatch and reconnaissance to ferrying patrols into remote localities. Their Black Hawk and Iroquois helicopters operate around the clock on a needs basis.
The Group also provide emergency medical evacuations for people in urgent need of life saving medical attention - hence the need to train medical personnel in helicopter operations.
The are some 750 Australian Defence Force on duty in East Timor. The aim of the Australian contingent, along with the whole International Stabilisation Force, is to assist the Government of Timor Leste and the United Nations Police in providing a secure environment in which the various groups can peacefully resolve their differences.
