1RAR Band on song across Timor

Members of the Townsville-based band of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, have spent the past three weeks in Timor Leste playing a crucial role supporting the goodwill campaign promoting the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) message of peace and prosperity across the island.

The band, made up of 13 talented Army musicians with a variety of musical backgrounds, have been conducting their vital mission in supporting the ANZAC Battle Group troops throughout the country, as well as performing for the local Timorese population.

There are approximately 850 Australian Defence Force personnel currently serving in Timor Leste as part of Operation ASTUTE, the Australian Government response to the Timorese Government request for assistance in restoring peace to their country.

The Australians, as part of the International Stabilisation Force, are assisting the Government of Timor Leste and the United Nations Police to provide a secure environment in which the country can conduct its first independent presidential and parliamentary elections since independence.

Operation ASTUTE is the Australian Government's response to a request from the Government of Timor-Leste to assist in restoring peace to their country.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has deployed to Timor-Leste with a mission to assist the Government and the United Nations to bring stability, security and confidence to the Timorese to allow them to resolve their differences democratically and peacefully.

There are approximately 1100 ADF personnel currently serving in Timor-Leste.
