Aussie Soldiers Give Hope to Solomons in Honour of Soldier's Memory

In 2005, 3RAR Private (PTE) Jamie Clark died after falling down a deep shaft near Mbarana. Pte Clark had spent some time working in the village of Mbarana during his deployment to the Solomon Islands, and is remembered as a friend by the villagers.

The bulk of the 200 Army personnel on Rotation 16 of Operation ANODE were drawn from NSW Army Reserve Regiments, primarily from 5 Brigade and including elements of 8 Brigade.

In honour of the memory of Pte Jamie Clark, his mother, Avril Clark is coordinating fundraising efforts to build a kindergarten in the village. She has also regularly sent the school supplies, clothing and other aid.

The new Kindergarten, along with the regular donations of school supplies, is making a positive impact on the village and building a lasting legacy to the memory of Pte Clark.
