Remembrance Day in Solomon Islands

Soldiers from the multi-national force supporting RAMSI gathered together for Remembrance Day to honour those who laid down their lives in war at the chapel by Guadalcanal Beach at the Combined task Force (CTF) 635 Headquarters on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands.

The Australian High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, Mr Peter Hooton, and the coordinator of RAMSI, Mr Tim George, joined the Commander of the Combined Task Force 635, Lieutenant Colonel Ian Upjohn and other dignitaries in prayers and a wreath laying ceremony.

Employers brought to the Solomon Islands as part of Exercise Boss Lift to see the work of their Reservist employees, participated in the service, as a choir made up of soldiers from the Tongan Army contingent sang hymns.

Operation ANODE is the name of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the Australian-led Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI). RAMSI's assistance is known as Operation HELPEM FREN (Pidgin English for 'Helping Friend'). RAMSI's mission is to assist the Solomon Islands' Government in restoring law and order.

ADF personnel are working alongside personnel from New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji and Papua New Guinea providing a safe and secure environment for the Royal Solomon Islands Police and participating Police Forces who are responsible for law and order in the Solomon Islands.
