Urban operations training
The Australian Federal Police took part in Blue Force village security operations on Exercise Talisman Saber.
Members of the AFP's International Deployment Group (IDG) conducted security and policing activities inside the Urban Operations Training Facility (UOTF) inside Shoal Water Bay Training Area.
The UOTF simulates a typical urban layout and during Talisman Saber it became a key test area for Blue Force elements with humanitarian aid activities, civil disturbance management, and improvised explosive device detection and defeat the prime objectives.
Once secured by the Brisbane-based 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, the UOTF was handed over to the AFP for security and policing operations.
Based around the 6th Battalion The Royal Australian Regiment, the BG included an additional infantry combat team from the 8th 9th Battalion, tanks from B Squadron 1st Armoured Regiment, military police from 1st Military Police Battalion, field exploitation teams from 1st Intelligence Battalion, a light electronic warfare team from 7th Signals Regiment, UAV from 20 Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment, and offensive support assets controlled by 1st Field Regiment.
