5th Aviation Regiment at Talisman Saber 09
Down low and Dirty. Helicopters from B and C Squadrons, of the Townsville-based 5th Aviation Regiment - extract infantry from field exercises. Three Black Hawks and a Chinook pick up the soldiers from the Brisbane-based 8th / 9th Battalion of The Royal Australian Regiment (8/9 RAR) at a landing zone in Shoalwater Bay Training Area, transporting them to Williamson Airfield. This is the first leg of their journey home, marking the end of Talisman Saber 2009 for 8/9 RAR.

Exercise Talisman Saber 2009 (TS09) is a biennial combined training activity, designed to train Australian and US forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations, which will help improve ADF/US combat readiness and inter-operability.
This exercise is a major undertaking which reflects the closeness of our alliance and the strength of the military – military relationship.
