Urban operations training
Australian and United States military personnel training in the Shoal Water Bay Training Area (SWBTA) near Rockhampton, Queensland have a unique opportunity to work together in the Urban Operations Training Facility (UOTF) located in the SWBTA. Military personnel for the Australian Defence Force, United States Defence Forces and the Australian Federal Police come to the UOTF during Exercise Talisman Saber to practice tactics and procedures in a variety of urban environments presented by the training facility. These include a town market square, municipal building, high density housing and shanty town sites. The variety of sites enables participants' to operate in life like conditions in a controlled environment.
Exercise Talisman Saber 2009 (TS09) is a biennial combined training activity, designed to train Australian and US forces in planning and conducting combined task force operations which will improve ADF/US combat readiness and inter-operability. This exercise is a major undertaking which reflects the closeness of our alliance and the strength of the military-military relationship. (Official Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl Michael Augusto)
