Rockhampton Opens Its Doors to Visiting Soldiers
Australian and United States personnel took time out from Exercise Talisman Saber 2009 preparations, to say G'day and Howdy to the people of Rockhampton with an open day on the 5 July 2009. Incorporating a display of past and present vehicles, equipment and historical re enactors in period uniforms, the Open Day was a chance for locals to meet the men and women of the Australian Army and United States (US) Marine Corps in town for the exercise.
Air Commodore Rick Owen, Royal Australian Air Force and US Marine Colonel Steven Merrill, presented the Mayor of Rockhampton with plaques celebrating the close and historical ties of the city to the Military. An Australian Army Band and the Marine Force Pacific (MARFORPAC) Band, entertained and delighted the large audience at their show with a selection of contemporary and classic hits.
