29 July 2010 Soldiers from Bravo Company 2nd Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, 108 Battery 4th Field Regiment, and 16 Field Squadron 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment are embarked aboard the Austin-Class amphibious transport dock ship (LPD 7) USS Cleveland for the amphibious phase of Exercise RIMPAC 2010. The Cleveland has also played host to a stream of personnel conducting a short exchange from the Australian Landing Platform Amphibious ship, HMAS Kanimbla, to see how she conducts amphibious operations. The Cleveland is operating in company with the Wasp-Class amphibious assault ship (LHD 6) USS Bonhomme Richard and HMAS Kanimbla off the coast of Hawaii as part of the Exercise RIMPAC 2010 sea phase. The Australian Defence Force’s largest international maritime exercise, Exercise Rim-of-the-Pacific (RIMPAC) 2010 continues off Hawaii. RIMPAC is designed to test interoperability with 14 Pacific Rim nations. Approximately 1200 ADF personnel will be participating. This year marks the 22nd RIMPAC. It is being hosted by the US Third Fleet over a five week period, finishing on the 1st August 2010. |
