27 July 2010 The US Wasp-Class amphibious assault ship (LHD 6) USS Bonhomme Richard is host to a contingent of international personnel and also a stream of personnel conducting a short exchange from the Australian Landing Platform Amphibious ship, HMAS Kanimbla. With the delivery in the near future of two Landing Helicopter Dock ships to the Royal Australian Navy, the layout of Bonhomme Richard, and its equipment and methods for conducting amphibious operations are of great interest to the Australian soldiers and sailors aboard. The Bonhomme Richard is operating in company with the USS Cleveland and HMAS Kanimbla off the coast of Hawaii as part of the Exercise RIMPAC 2010 sea phase. |
