15 July 2010 This firing exercise allowed HMAS Warramunga and a RAAF AP 3C to participate in a multi-national Harpoon firing, with air and surface units from Canada and the United States, to determine the operational effectiveness of the ADF against realistic threat surface combatants in an open ocean scenario. The ship was the first of the ANZAC Class to fire a Harpoon Block II Missile. This firing represents the culmination of a significant amount of work, to prepare and execute the firing from across the defence program including Navy, Air Force and DMO as well as the Warfare Centres from the United States and Canada. The Australian Defence Force’s largest international maritime exercise, Exercise Rim-of-the-Pacific (RIMPAC) is designed to test interoperability with 14 Pacific Rim nations. Approximately 1200 ADF personnel will be participating. This year marks the 22nd RIMPAC. It is being hosted by the US Third Fleet over a five week period, finishing on the 1st August 2010. |
