Ships Arrive for Exercise RIMPAC

The Australian Defence Force’s largest international maritime exercise, Exercise Rim-of-the-Pacific (RIMPAC) 2010 is designed to test interoperability with 14 Pacific Rim nations.

Approximately 1200 personnel will be participating including members from Australian Navy ships HMAS Kanimbla, Newcastle and Warramunga, Navy Clearance Divers, members of 2 RAR from Townsville and members from 11SQN and 92WG from RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia.

This year will mark the 22nd RIMPAC. It will be hosted by the US Third Fleet over a
five week period, finishing on the 1st August 2010.

Vikki, 29, grew up in Moora, in Western Australia. She joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Marine Technician in 2008, and finished her training in 2009. She joined HMAS KANIMBLA at the start of 2010, and was aboard to help the ship complete its Unit Readiness Evaluation (URE).

Seaman Marine Technician Josh Cochrane, 20, seats a new bearing into a refurbished waterpump. Josh grew up in Glenmore Park in Sydney, and joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2009. Josh completed his training in early 2010, and joined HMAS KANIMBLA in May.Josh is now sailing toward Hawaii on HMAS KANIMBLA, to participate in Exercise RIMPAC 2010. 'This is my first sea posting, so its exciting to sail out from Sydney and see the world.'
