PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP
14 September 2010 Australia’s largest contribution to the annual US-led humanitarian assistance mission Pacific Partnership 2010 (PP10) concluded this week in Papua New Guinea, treating almost 110 000 patients in five countries. More than 300 ADF personnel participated in the mission, providing medical, dental and engineering assistance over the four month period. An Australian Navy ship, HMAS Tobruk, provided a Command platform in Papua New Guinea, a first since the mission's inception and HMA Ships Labuan and Tarakan provided essential logistics support in Indonesia and East Timor. Engineers from Second Combat Engineer Regiment completed 22 engineering projects such as school building restoration and drilling and developing water wells over the four months. Medical and Dental personnel from all three services provided health care to patients at medical clinics and conducted almost 900 surgeries onboard USNS Mercy whilst also participating in subject matter expert exchanges and health education programs.
