PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP
24 August 2010 HMAS Tobruk has commenced operation as the Pacific Partnership 2010 mission command platform for the last leg of the six country mission in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This is the first time in the conduct of the annual humanitarian assistance endeavour that an Australian ship has acted in the capacity of command platform, hosting United States Navy, partner nation and non-government organisation personnel onboard. Arriving at Dili, East Timor at the conclusion of the PP10 mission, Tobruk transferred personnel and onloaded cargo from United States Naval Ship Mercy in preparation of the commencement of the mission on 3 September 2010. The multi-national PP10 team will work with members of the PNG Defence Force as well as various non-government organisations and the ship’s company of USS Crommelin to conduct medical, dental, engineering and community service projects in the area of Rabaul, PNG. |
