Pitch Black 2010
04 August 2010 Essential maintenance on Darwin Airport's radar system will be able to go ahead thanks to Exercise Pitch Black 2010. At the conclusion of the exercise this month, Darwin Airport's radar system will be switched off in order to undertake essential maintenance and will be temporarily replaced by a portable Air Force radar. The Tactical Airfield Surveillance Radar (TASR), a portable system designed to be set up in the field at remote or improvised airstrips, but with a similiar capability to permanently installed radars, was transported by road from RAAF base Richmond especially for the exercise.
