Navy transports Soldiers
HMAS WEWAK, a Royal Australian Navy Landing Craft Heavy (LCH), has transported two platoons of Australian and Tongan soldiers back from the island of Malaita to their base in Guadalcanal. The soldiers were on the island of Malaita in support of the Solomon Islands' games which were held from 16 June to 15 July and attracted more than 10,000 spectators from across the region. During the games the soldiers conducted joint outreach patrols and supported community policing operations with the Participating Police Forces (PPF) and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).
The soldiers are in the Solomon Islands as part of Operation ANODE - the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the Australian led Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
