Charting A Brighter Future In The Solomon Islands

The Royal Australian Navy's Deployable Giospatial Support Team (DGST) has began conducting survey evolutions at Kakabona Beach in the Solomon Islands in support of Operation ANODE.

Based in Wollongong, the DGST team will spend approximately one month in the Solomon Islands conducting reconnaissance and charting key beaches in the area in order to pave the way for amphibious training exercises with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

Operation ANODE is the name of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) contribution to the Australian led Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). RAMSI's mission is to assist the Solomon Islands Government in restoring law and order, economic governance and improving the machinery of government. The military component of RAMSI is comprised primarily of personnel from four troop-contributing nations – Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga. The main task for the military component is to provide security for RAMSI's multinational Participating Police Force (PPF) who work alongside the RSIPF in maintaining law and order.
