Medical Teams Arrive in Pakistan

The first Australian medical teams who will provide vital healthcare treatment and assistance to the victims of the devastating Pakistan floods arrived in the city of Multan, central Pakistan, today.

The AusAID-led Joint Inter-Agency Medical Task Force (JIAMTF) is stationed in Multan briefly whilst a field medical facility is being established 80km to the north-west, in the flood-affected city of Kot Addu.

The medical facility is expected to be constructed within the next 72 hours and fully operational within a week. Once constructed, the Medical Task Force will transfer to Kot Addu where they will deliver immediate, short term primary health care and maternal and child health care to those in need.

The Medical Task Force is comprised of both civilian and military medical and environmental health professionals, with the first contingent provided by the ADF and consisting of three Primary Health Care Teams (PHCT) and one Environmental Health Team (EHT), facilitated by small command and support elements.
