SUVs for SECDET

In 2010, SECDET transitioned from the ASLAV to up-armoured Landcruiser SUVs. The SUVs come in two variants – a 4.2 tonne Series 76 and the 4.6 tonne Landcruiser that the Close Personal Protection team (CPP) uses. For standard escort tasks, they place five troopers in each vehicle – a driver, commander and three operators.
In what they call a ‘motorcade’, the CPP take the diplomats or VIPs in the other, heavier Landcruisers, with the Counter-Attack Team – the troopers – in the other Series 76s.

Deep Caption: Working under Operation Kruger, approximately 100 personnel – mainly Army and some private security contractors - make up SECDET. SECDET’s role is to provide close personal protection, static security, quality assurance and security advice to the Australian Embassy and its staff in Baghdad, Iraq.
