General Information

The Australian-led International Stabilisation Force’s role in Timor-Leste has changed to the redeployment of people and equipment following the termination of the United Nations Technical Arrangement.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Sasse is the Commander of Joint Task Force 631 for Operation ASTUTE in Timor - Leste.

The current agreement with the Government of Timor-Leste will see International Stabilisation Force troops start to depart Timor-Leste in late November and early December and current bases remediated for handover by mid - 2013.

The Joint Task Force comprises around 7 personnel and will continue to reduce over the coming weeks.

Personnel from Australia and New Zealand are proud of the part they have played in assisting the Timor-Leste security forces ' efforts to restore stability to their nation.

Australia will continue its strong security relationship with Timor -Leste through the Defence Cooperation Program, which will continue its mission to support the development of the Timor-Leste Defence Force
