Army troops return from East Timor

Around approximately 150 Australian soldiers are arriving home from East Timor after a successful four-month deployment in the International Stabilisation Force (ISF).

The soldiers, called B Company from the Brisbane based 8th/9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, arrived in the ISF in June 2010 at the invitation of the Government and in support of the United Nations.

The soldiers have helped maintain stability and provide a secure environment for the ongoing development of the country.

Their Commander of the ISF, Colonel Simon Stuart, praised the troops for their dedication and professionalism.

“B Company provided an effective and committed capability to the ISF. Their hard work and high quality skills sets enabled the ISF to continue the very worthy mission in East Timor and their esprit de corps was noteworthy,” said Colonel Stuart.

B Company also worked closely with the largest component of a bilateral ANZAC Company group which included members of the New Zealand Defence Force.

The departing soldiers will be replaced by the same number of High Readiness Reservists from various units across the Army Reserve.
