Dili 'City of Peace' Marathon
The Inaugural Dili 'City of Peace' Marathon was held in Dili on June 20, 2010. Starting and finishing outside of the Palacio Governo, the marathon attracted 1100 competitors from around the world and locally. Personnel from the International Stabilisation Force and US Navy took part as well. The marathon comprised a 42 km, 21 km, 10 km and 5 km run. President Jose Ramos-Horta officially started the race and took part in the 5km leg.
The marathon is an East Timorese Government initiative to promote tourism to the country.
