Funeral of Rufino Alves Correia

ADF troops deployed to East Timor have attended the funeral of one of the last East Timorese veterans alongside hundreds of mourners in Dili. The procession honored Senor Rufino Alves Correia, who served alongside Australian forces during World War II. Members of Joint Task Force 631 carried the casket through a guard of honour, before family, friends and colleagues sang hymns and offered prayer.

It was Senor Correia’s special request to be draped with the Australian flag upon his passing, typifying an everlasting bond to his neighbouring comrades.
