Air Commodore Watson has served with the RAAF for 30 years. His flying career was served as a Maritime Navigator on P-3C Orions with units of No.92 Wing and on exchange with the US Navy. He is a graduate of the RAAF Command and Staff College and the Centre for Strategic Studies, holding a Masters in Strategic Studies from Deakin University.  His staff appointments include Capability Development (Electronic Warfare and Space Surveillance) and Chief of Staff to CDF.  His command appointments include Commanding Officer No.3 Control and Reporting Unit, Officer Commanding No.41 Wing, Commander Air Force Training Group and currently serves as Commander Northern Command. 

Air Commodore Watson is married to Desiree and they jointly have three daughters and a son. His interests include woodworking, gardening, fishing and has an interest in International Humanitarian Law.
