Sarbi Enjoys a Run in Dubai

Sarbi, the Australian Special Forces Explosive Detection dog (EDD) was on her second tour of duty in Afghanistan when she went missing for 14 months after she was separated from her handler in Afghanistan.

A rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) had exploded close to Sarbi during a battle with the Taliban that left nine soldiers wounded, including her handler. It was the same battle where Trooper Mark Donaldson earned his Victoria Cross.

Sarbi has been in the UAE since June 2010 and is residing in a facility in Dubai to prepare her in accordance with Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service import conditions. Sarbi is in good health and has her own enclosure, continued access to veterinary staff and a regular exercise program.

Sarbi will be returned to the Incident Response Regiment where she will continue her training and assessment for further employment as an Explosives Detection Dog.
