MTF-2 Hits the ground running

Commanding Officer (CO) of the Mentoring Task Force - Two (MTF-2), Lieutenant Colonel (LTCOL) Darren Huxley is moving around his command area and meeting soldiers as part of his battlefield circulation tour. The tour enables the MTF-2 Commander to see first hand the Australian area of operation in Uruzgan Province, southern Afghanistan.

The MTF-2 mission in Afghanistan is to mentor the Afghan National Army and this trip enabled LTCOL Huxley to meet members of the Afghan National Army and see how their knowledge and skills have developed under the mentoring of the Australians.

The MTF-2 soldiers are currently mentoring soldiers from the Afghan National Army to create a combined presence throughout the region. It also enables the Afghan National Army to take the lead in providing security against insurgent forces. The ongoing success of the mentoring programs is delivering good results and clearly demonstrates the ability of Afghan National Army to eventually take over security operations in Uruzgan province.

Operations are focused on improving the lives of local people through governance, increased security and community liaison to set the conditions for development in areas such as health, education and public works.
