CJTF Patrolling with MTF-2

Commander of the Australian Joint Task Force 633, Major General (MAJGEN) John Cantwell travelled to Uruzgan Province recently to attend the hand over parade of the 1st Mentoring Task Force (MTF-1) to the Mentoring Task Force - Two at the Multi-National Base Tarin Kot (MNB-TK).

Following the parade, MAJGEN Cantwell visited several patrol bases in Uruzgan to meet the Australian and Afghan troops.

Whilst at the patrol bases, Major General Cantwell participated in many of the day-to-day activities carried out by the soldiers, observing how well prepared they are for the work ahead in their areas of operation.

Soldiers from Mentoring Task Force - Two are already conducting patrols with their Afghan National Army counterparts to disrupt insurgent’s activities, locate and destroy weapons and IED caches and to provide a more secure region for Afghan locals.

The Mentoring Task Force - Two will be assisting the ISAF mission in Afghanistan for the next eight months.

Operation SLIPPER is Australia’s military contribution to the international campaigns against terrorism, countering piracy in the Gulf of Aden, and maritime security in the Middle East Area of Operations.
