Afghan Kids get PJs from Aussies
An initiative of the Force Support Unit in Kandahar in collecting unwanted Tazo’s from people leaving theatre in a charity drive appropriately named “Tazo’s for Children” has raised enough money to present a meaningful gift to children who have been injured as a result of the conflict in Afghanistan. Staff at the Role 3 Multi-national Medical Unit identified that there was a lack of suitable clothing for children who were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
In conjunction with a Brisbane-based textile company, 40 pairs of children’s hospital pyjamas and thirty hospital gowns were manufactured to meet the needs of the Kandahar Role 3 hospital.
The first child to receive a pair of pyjamas (pictured) was immediately able to be taken for a walk outside the hospital by his family to assist with his recovery; the first time he had been outside since arriving at the Role 3 several days prior.
