Australian Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mr Ric Smith, met Australian troops at Multi-National Base Tarin Kowt (MNBTK) on 18 July as part of a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) visit to the Middle East Area of Operations.
Mr Smith was accompanied by the Director General of AusAID, Mr Peter Baxter and the Assistant Secretary Pakistan and Afghanistan, Mr Jon Merrill.
The Australian Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ambassador Paul Foley and the Assistant Commander - Afghanistan, Brigadier Don Roach accompanied the DFAT VIPs during the visit that included operational updates on security and development in Uruzgan at Headquarters 1st Mentoring Task Force.
The VIP group also visited the Australian Federal Police, AusAID, and DFAT contingents, located at MNBTK, as well as the acting Governor of Uruzgan Khoday at the Governor's Compound in Tarin Kowt.
